Issue Number Eight

Dear Reader:

Welcome to the Summer 2014 installment of Squalorly. This is issue number eight. We're talking two full years of fiction, nonfiction and poetry that we've brought to your eyeballs. That feels very nice to write.

First things first, we have a new Non-Fiction Editor, Rachel Schienke, for this issue. We welcome her to the staff and look forward to the insight she will bring to our nonfiction department. As you may have deduced, Rachel is a female, bringing our gender distribution ratio here at Squalorly to a perfect 50:50. Something we are terribly proud of. We hope you appreciate as much as we do the balance we’ve worked hard to build among our staff of readers. So, yeah, pretty cool stuff there.

Moving on, our judges have selected winners in our poetry contest, though the winning piece, along with the runners up, will not be published until Issue Number 9. This will coincide with a wonderful interview with our Guest Judge, L.S. Klatt, conducted by our esteemed Poetry Editor, Seth Piccolo. Our anticipation is palpable.

We’ve received some great submissions to our Short Short Story Contest, as well. We hope to see that trend continue. There’s little I enjoy more than an author’s solution to the problem of brevity. As difficult as word count constraints can be, I am constantly amazed by the quality and completeness that I see in the flash submissions we receive. So, if you haven’t already, add to that amazement with a submission of your own.

Mostly, I just want to do what I always seem to do here. And, so, I extend a most sincere thank you to all of our readers and writers for making this website a success, and for making it possible for us to read and edit and publish great writing. Thank you. Thank you. A million times, thank you.

Now, go enjoy the heck out of this issue. It’s a good one.

As Always, Keep Reading and Writing.
